Day 15 - Industrial Visit to WISCO

Today we woke up at 7.20am because we have to go for industrial visit to WISCO (Wuhan Iron & Steel Company)! Though I was extremely tired, I was looking forward to this industrial visit as it will be my first time being able to enter such place and see how the system works. We reached the place at roughly 9.15am and started touring the place. The place was steaming hot because the steel was being moulded at a very high temperature that all of us just couldn't stand it and covered our face with our hands. Haha! It looks like iron is a simple thing to everyone. However, have any of us wondered how it was being made? I guess none. It was actually being made with complicated processes because there were lots of machines to heat up the iron, cool down the metals and then coil the iron up.

After that, we had Project Management and we started a new topic - Project Cost. I was quite confused from the start because the process of doing was quite complicated for me. :( In the end, I was the last one to leave the classroom due to some errors in my work! Luckily, Zhen Zhao guided me all the way from the start and helped me with my mistakes. Thank You!! :)

Once again, I didn't went out for dinner. When I was about to bathe, something happened. THERE WAS NO WATER!!!!!!!! =.= I was so shocked that water ran out suddenly. I have no choice but to wait for the water to come back. Unfortunately, Mr Chia told us that there will be no water throughout the night. So everyone started to take their pails to Level 4 to fill up their pails with water. Thus, I didn't get to bathe for the whole day. Dirty right?! No choice....... :(

Reflection

Today was an enriching day for me because I went to WISCO (Wuhan Iron & Steel Company) to see how iron was made. This visit is kind of a 1-time opportunity for me. Go once or never. So I'm quite glad that I had this one and only chance to experience this. I was quite surprised to see that the process of making iron was actually quite complicated. People usually take things for granted, not knowing the hard work of workers doing the job. Since now I know, I shall start cherishing every single thing in my life, even if it is just a piece of paper. Oh and, talking about work, I seriously can't imagine how the people over here work for a day with such little pay. Because my group mate, Zhen Zhao, was telling me about the China students working during their holidays to earn some quick bucks. One of them was working in a company doing amplifier job, in which he had to put some small tiny parts into it, earning only 100-200RMB for one whole day (that is roughly about 20-40SGD). I was totally shocked when he told me about the pay. I should be glad that I am able to earn $6/hr as a part time worker. Haha!

Getting ready to leave..... :D

Saw the orange "light" ? The extremely hot iron.

Cooling down......

Once again, the hot iron.....
